Tourismus fairändern
Preparing for the Future
Tourism has the potential to make a significant contribution to global sustainable development and to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In practice, however, there is still a clear “sustainability gap” in tourism education and training. Many tourism businesses also have yet to fully raise awareness among their staff about the global interconnections of tourism.
With our project “Tourismus Fairändern”, we aim to raise awareness among future tourism professionals for environmentally responsible and socially equitable tourism, and to motivate them to actively drive change.
Driving the Transformation Together
Our project “Tourismus Fairändern” is funded by Engagement Global on behalf of the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ).
The project is implemented with the support of the educational institution KATE Umwelt & Entwicklung and in cooperation with our practice partner Duale Hochschule Ravensburg.
The “Tourismus Fairändern” Teaching Module
As part of the project, a teaching module and supporting materials are being developed to highlight the global interconnections of tourism and practical options for action in everyday professional life. Building on the core learning units, flexible awareness-raising activities enable students to apply their knowledge in practice and strengthen their ability to implement sustainable tourism solutions.
Our Goal – Building Skills for the Future of Tourism
The project equips future tourism professionals with an understanding of the global impacts of tourism and its role in achieving the SDGs. They learn how to integrate fair and sustainable practices into their daily work, whether in travel agencies or tour operators, for example in customer advisory services or product development. Ultimately, the project empowers participants to actively shape a more sustainable society and contribute to transforming tourism.
