ETSM2030

Advancing Sustainability in the European Tourism Industry Together

An International Project

The ETSM2030 project is funded by the European Union (EU) and aims to promote sustainability certification and sustainability expertise among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while bringing together sustainably operating SMEs within a network that actively fosters exchange and collaboration. ETSM2030 is part of COSME, a European programme designed to strengthen the competitiveness of SMEs across the EU.

The Goal – Strengthening Sustainability Skills and Collaboration

ETSM2030 seeks to establish a network of tourism SMEs to enhance sustainability monitoring through the joint development and implementation of innovative sustainability projects. In addition, the project supports participation in relevant training programmes and coaching initiatives focused on sustainability and innovation, extending all the way to the implementation of certification schemes.

The Team Behind the Project

The project is carried out by a consortium of eight partners from six European countries: Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, and Poland. The consortium brings together both academic expertise and practical experience. Alongside universities, partners include Innsbruck Tourismus as a destination management organisation (DMO), as well as applied sustainability experts such as EURAC and TourCert. The project is led by the University of Innsbruck.

Running from January 1, 2023 to December 30, 2025, the project has a total budget of €1,138,510, with a significant share allocated to direct financial support for SMEs.
