The Danube Region takes off
Thanks to the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), we were able to launch the project TourCert Danube in 2016. It includes a comprehensive plan of action to accompany tourism enterprises in the beautiful region along the Danube on their path to more sustainable tourism products and services.
Our Objective – Laying Foundation Stones
We want to promote sustainable tourism development and environmental responsibility with an innovative storytelling platform and create direct added value for the commitment of the participating companies. In addition, a systematic sustainability of the companies will quickly show potential for improvement. Our aim is to build a network in order to promote exchange among players in tourism.

„If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.“

Step by Step
Information & Motivation
The first step is to implement information and consultancy programmes which encourage more sustainable business operations.
Awareness Raising is Key
Training materials such as e-learning tools, check lists, and tips on protecting the environment qualify companies and their staff and raise their awareness of the issues. Personal support and advice is provided by experts in sustainable tourism.
Reaching the Goal with our Tools
Seminars for tourism enterprises and the TourCert Check – consisting of guidelines, e-learnings, a sustainability assessment (self check) and a programme for improvement – offer an introduction to sustainable practices.
Quality & Network Building
The TourCert Community lives through its international network. Our objective is to build an online platform to exchange experiences and share best practices. We are also planning delegation trips to promote networking.
Improving Visibility
Newsletters, social media, an image brochure covering several countries, media partnerships with trade magazines, and events take the project forward.

Who is it about?
Small and medium-sized tourism enterprises such as tour operators, travel agents, hotels, incoming agencies, but also tourism associations or destination management organisations can join the project. Very important: we also involve staff and business partners.
Join us!
Even after the end of the project there is the chance to participate in an international and innovative tourism project and to benefit from our comprehensive activities. Together we can develop tourism along the Danube in a sustainable manner. If you are interested in registering, simply write a short e-mail to check@tourcert.org. Tell us a little about yourself. What do you offer? What is your motivation for working in tourism? We would be pleased to call you back to clarify the next steps. We look forward to hearing from you!
